Trae Story was born in St. Paul, Minnesota, and grew up around the area. He began working with clay in high school and has been making ceramics ever since. After graduating high school he moved to Saint Cloud, Minnesota to attend St. Cloud State University (as a first-generation college student) where he competed for the wrestling team and studied ceramics. After receiving his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 2018, Trae moved to Bozeman, Montana where he completed a year-long post-baccalaureate ceramics program at Montana State University in 2019. In 2020, he completed another post-baccalaureate program at Colorado State University. After finishing up at CSU, Trae moved to Carbondale, Colorado to become the current artist in residence at the Carbondale Clay Center, where he teaches ceramics classes and maintains his personal studio practice. Trae loves the outdoors and enjoys fly fishing, backpacking, camping, and trail running.
