Andrew has spent the last decade teaching English at Elkins High School in Elkins, West Virginia, where he also serves as Chair of the Department of English. He holds a B.A. in English with minors in education and theatre from Davis & Elkins College and a M.S.Ed. in Education Entrepreneurship from University of Pennsylvania, Graduate School of Education. He loves teaching journalism, argumentation, creative nonfiction writing, and photography. Andrew sees writing as a skill that all can possess and use as a tool to shape a better future for all. He takes pride in providing students with clear, specific feedback on their writing to support growth. He believes that once we can confidently write about ourselves, our families, and our communities, we can write about anything. From his base camp in the Monongahela National Forest, Andrew enjoys cross-country skiing, trail running, gravel biking, and the occasional swim in a mountain stream. If he’s not outside, he can be found on the dance floor, city council chambers, or in an old-time jam session.
