[HS] 2 Class of 2015

Boston University, Class of 2020

I graduated from [HS]2 in 2015, and thanks to this program I have been able to accomplish many of my goals. I am currently a junior at Boston University studying neuroscience on a pre-medical track.

Deciding to apply to [HS]2 was a pivotal moment in my life. Before attending [HS]2, I had already planned to go to college, but my sights only extended to the borders of Texas and I had no idea how to attend college without being overwhelmed by loans. Schools in Texas are great and in-state tuition is more in reach for my family’s financial situation, but I’ve always hoped to study neuroscience, and most Texas schools only offered it as a minor. Because of the guidance I received in [HS]2 college counseling, I was able to extend my search outside Texas and look at schools with a strong neuroscience program. I also received a lot of help in finding and applying for scholarships, and thanks to that, I received a full scholarship to Boston University.

Taking classes at [HS]2 was quite different from my usual experience in high school. Teachers helped me on an individual level to make sure I understood the material. Learning was more hands-on and a lot more fun, especially because I was surrounded by other like-minded students. We all pushed each other to be the best students we could be and supported each other in our learning. I can assure you that every graduating class will use the word “family” to describe their relationship. We all grew so close and we still check up on each other every so often.

My experience at [HS]2 ignited my interest to seek new experiences and explore the world. Because of the scholarships, the program helped me get, I was able to spend a college semester abroad in Madrid, Spain! When I traveled to Colorado in 2013 for my first summer with [HS]2, it was a big deal to my family and me – I had never been on a plane before, and my family never had the money to travel outside of the country. Being in [HS]2 allowed me to develop the confidence, independence, and the ability to seek help from others, which is important when traveling alone, and in so many other areas of life.

I am so thankful for my experience at [HS]2, and now my little sister is about to graduate from the program this summer. I am grateful for all the support this program has provided, both before and after entering college. I am always happy to talk about [HS]2 because it is truly a rewarding and amazing experience.
